St. Jude Primary School Constructs New Classrooms

Located in the semi-rural Buwekula area of the Jinja District in Uganda, St. Jude Primary School is a ministry of Holy Cross Parish-Bugembe that educates 280 nursery and primary students.

Due to growth of student enrollment in recent years, the school has been in need of two additional classrooms, particularly for their nursery section which comprises of three levels: baby class, middle class, and top class. Up to now, the baby class and middle class were studying in one room separated by a simple cardboard divider, and the top class was studying in the temporary church extension.

In the Fall 2023, Fr. Dennis Lule, C.S.C., pastor of Holy Cross Parish-Bugembe, presented a proposal to complete the campus plan with the construction of two additional classrooms. Now, just five months later, the two classrooms are nearing completion (before and after pictures below) with only painting the walls and polishing the terrazzo floor remaining. Each classroom can accommodate up to 40 students and will allow each nursery section to utilize an individual classroom space for instruction. Additionally, the school received funding to purchase necessary furnishings, including: preschool chairs for the nursery section, lockers and chairs for the primary section, tables and chairs for the staff room, and storage cabinets for books and study materials.

“It is with deep joy and gratitude to God I pen these few words to thank you for being the channel of God’s providence through your support which enabled us to put up two classrooms and provide furniture. When I took up the school in 2021 [the classrooms were] a dream which has now become a reality. God has fulfilled my desire to see the school grow not only through infrastructure, but also academically, morally, psychologically, and in discipline.” // Head Teacher Sr. M. Winifreda, A.C.

Thank you to our benefactors who support the efforts of the Holy Cross Mission Center in East Africa! Through your generosity, the students at St. Jude Primary School continue to have a comfortable and positive environment in which they can learn. The students are currently on holiday and look forward to returning to the new classrooms on February 5!
