Rev. John Ryan, C.S.C., will be formally inaugurated as the ninth president of King’s College at a Convocation ceremony to be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, in the Scandlon Center on campus.
Fr. Ryan succeeded Rev. Thomas J. O’Hara, C.S.C., as president of King’s on July 1. A native of Wilkes-Barre, Fr. Ryan was a member of the King’s business faculty since 1994 and led the McGowan School of Business for seven years before becoming president. Under his leadership the School was granted re-accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), a designation only granted to 10 percent of business schools in the world.
The inauguration ceremony will feature greetings from Wilkes-Barre Mayor Thomas Leighton, a 1982 King’s graduate, and from representatives of the College alumni, student body and employees, as well as from leaders of the Congregation of Holy Cross and representatives of fellow Holy Cross sponsored colleges and universities. The Most Reverend Joseph Bambera, D.D., J.C.L., tenth bishop of the Diocese of Scranton, will provide closing remarks and benediction.
Brother John R. Paige, C.S.C., new president of Holy Cross College in Notre Dame, Ind., will provide the keynote address. Br. Paige was director of the formation faculty at the Holy Cross Novitiate in Waterford, New York, when Fr. Ryan was a second-year seminarian.
“Brother John Paige set for me a very early example, in both word and action, of the joy and satisfaction that comes from loving God and others in the Holy Cross tradition,” said Fr. Ryan.
