A new boys’ dormitory at Holy Cross Lake View Senior Secondary School in Jinja, Uganda, will be completed yet this year.
Rev. Patrick Neary, C.S.C., Superior of the District of East Africa, proudly announced the news during “An Evening with a Lake View,” a fundraiser for the school, held on June 9, 2013, at Moreau Seminary, Notre Dame, Ind. The new dorm will be at the Musima campus of the school. The next priorities will include a new chapel/dining hall and a girls’ dormitory. The Holy Cross Mission Center fundraiser, which included an African-inspired Mass and dinner, raised $80,000 for the construction of the residence hall. About 135 Mission Center benefactors and friends attended the event.
Fr. Neary presided at the Mass and 15 members of the Sisters of the Holy Cross Choir performed East African music. At the dinner, Rev. Leonard Olobo, C.S.C., Director of the Mission Center, gave the invocation; Rev. Richard Potthast, C.S.C., Pastor of St. Jude Tadeo Parish in Kyarusozi, Uganda, offered the benediction. Bob Nagle was the master of ceremonies.
Major contributors to the school include the Holy Cross Solidarity Fund, the Koch Foundation, the estate of Rev. Raymond Totten and the Wolohan Family Foundation. Gold sponsors of the event were William and Marge Basler; Peter and Wilma Veldman and the Tire Rack; Dr. Michael (Marci) Wolohan; and the Estate of Laura A. Zeiger. Holy Cross and St. Stanislaus Parish was a silver sponsor.
