There was more than one great victory last weekend.
Not only did the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team eke out a victory against the Navy Midshipmen, but those who attended the Masses at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart during game weekend pulled off a huge win for the Holy Cross Mission Centerand the thousands of the poor whose lives are affected by the work of Holy Cross overseas each day.
About $30,000 was collected during the Masses to benefit the overseas mission work of Holy Cross and the Holy Cross Mission Center. A free-will offering for the Mission Center also was taken during a special concert Friday night at the Basilica by the Notre Dame Folk Choir.
Rev. Robert Dowd, C.S.C., assistant professor of political science and director of the Ford Family Program in Human Development Studies and Solidarity at ND’s Kellogg Institute for International Studies, preached at Sunday’s mission appealMass at the Basilica. Fr. Dowd talked about the work Holy Cross does in closing the gap between the way the world is and the way God wants it to be. Watch Fr. Bob’s moving homily.
