Rev. Stephen Joseph Sedlock, C.S.C.

PHOENIX, ARIZ. – Rev. Stephen J. Sedlock, C.S.C., 85, died in Phoenix, Ariz. on June 24, 2022 after a short illness.
Fr. Sedlock was born on February 5, 1937 in Barnesboro, Pa., the second oldest of four children to Stephen P. and Mary (Simo) Sedlock. He attended St. John the Baptist Grade School and Barnesboro Public High School. Following his graduation, he spent three and one half years in the United States Navy as a neuropsychiatric technician in the medical corps. In February 1958, he entered the Old College program at the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Ind. and later that same year he went to Sacred Heart Novitiate in Jordan, Minn., where he made first vows on August 16, 1959. In 1963, he graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor in Arts in Philosophy and was ordained a Holy Cross priest on June 9, 1966.
After ordination, Fr. Sedlock was assigned as an assistant at Little Flower Parish from 1966 to 1968, then at Christ the King Parish from 1968 to 1972, both located in South Bend, Ind. He spent the next two years as chaplain at LeMans Academy, Rolling Prairie, Ind. After a year at University of Portland, Ore. (1974-75) and three years as chaplain at Boysville in Clinton, Mich., he spent the next eight years (1979-1987) as pastor of St. Stanislaus Parish in South Bend, Ind. From 1987-1992, he was associate pastor at St. Francis Xavier Parish in Burbank, Calif. He then returned to Little Flower Parish as an associate pastor from 1992-1994. From 1994-98, he assisted at St. Vincent de Paul Chapel in Portland, Ore., before returning back to South Bend, Ind. to be associate pastor at Sacred Heart Parish and then Holy Cross Parish (1990-2001). From 2001-2005 he assisted at Our Lady of Soledad in Coachella, Calif. before being assigned associate pastor at Holy Redeemer Parish in Portland, Ore. for the next year. In 2006, he returned to South Bend, Ind. as associate pastor of St. Joseph Parish until 2009, when he moved to Phoenix, Ariz. to reside at Casa Santa Cruz and offer parish assistance to various local parishes.
Fr. Sedlock was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ramona Murphy, nephew Matt E. Murphy, Jr., and a grandnephew Daniel A. Read. He is survived by his siblings: Regis (Kathleen) Sedlock and Monica (Andrew) Wadium. He isalso survived by eleven nieces and nephews, and numerous grand nieces and nephews.

Burial will be in the community cemetery at Notre Dame. Kaniewski Funeral Home, South Bend, is in charge of the arrangements.
