Community Engagement Updates: June 3, 2024

Here are a few things that our office has been working on with our partners:

1. All Twinning groups are asked to submit their semester’s fundraising amounts to the Holy Cross Mission Center in one of two ways:
  • Donate online using our secure online donation portal, noting the Twinning ministry site where the funds should be directed.
  • Mail checks payable to the “Holy Cross Mission Center” with your Twinning partner site written in the “Memo” line. Please using the following address:

2. May 3: We were fortunate to be invited by the Moreau Seminary community to their production of the Hunchback of Notre Dame (see photo above) – a fun experience for all in attendance!

3. May 6: Our Director, Fr. Tom Eckert, C.S.C., and Assistant Director for Community Engagement, Michael Jezewak, hosted the final Ganguly Exchange Formation Meeting for the six men in formation who will be ministering for eight weeks in Bangladesh, Peru, Mexico, and Kenya. This presentation provided a framework for intercultural dialogue where the men in formation considered characteristics of their friends and loved ones. We also presented them with reflection questions for them to think through during their eight-week ministry experiences.

4. May 7: Thanks to Fr. Greg Haake, C.S.C., Fr. Tom and Michael hosted an HCMC information session for members of the Corby Hall community. After an overview of our office’s structure and ongoing work, we took questions on Mission Appeals, projects funded through HCMC donor funds, and collaboration opportunities.

5. May 9: Michael spoke with two Holy Cross educational partners about international immersion opportunities at Holy Cross’s ministry sites. Faculty and staff interested in exploring immersion opportunities to Holy Cross missions are invited to email Michael at mjezewak@holycrossusa.org.

6. May 13: Michael met with Dr. Chris Haug, Provincial Assistant for Apostolic Mission & Charism, to coordinate efforts for the coming months.

7. May 22: Michael fielded an internship inquiry. We invite students interested in internships with our office to set up a meeting with Assistant Director for Community Engagement Michael Jezewak at mjezewak@holycrossusa.org.

8. May 30: Our office began praying the Congregation’s Novena for the Canonization of Blessed Basil Moreau along with our U.S. Province colleagues in Haggar Hall. The Novena runs through Friday, June 7.

9. May 30: Michael met with a Notre Dame alumnus to advise on his parish’s nonprofit work in East Africa. We are grateful to hear that those formed by Holy Cross’s educational institutions in the U.S. continue to build a more just world long after graduating.

10. June 1: Rev. Bob Dowd, C.S.C., began his term as the 18th president of the University of Notre Dame. A friend of the Holy Cross Mission Center who spent 18 months with the Congregation’s ministries in East Africa, Fr. Dowd will certainly be in our prayers in the months to come. Read more about Fr. Dowd here.
