At the invitation of Pope Francis, Superior General of the Congregation of Holy Cross, Br. Paul Bednarczyk, C.S.C., has invited the Congregation worldwide to unite in prayer for world peace. All are encouraged to participate in a global Rosary for Peace on February 16, the first Friday of Lent.
The Rosary will begin at 4:00 p.m. in Rome (10:00 a.m. ET in the United States) with a personal message and prayer from Br. Bednarczyk from the Generalate in Rome. In collaboration with Holy Cross Family Ministries, after the opening prayer, meditations and prayers on the traditional Sorrows of Mary will be led by Holy Cross ministry centers in 18 countries on five different continents.
“Mary is the first to find hope in the Cross. She is our patroness, and it is so right that we pray through her intercession for peace in the midst of the suffering of our world,” said Rev. William M. Lies, C.S.C., provincial superior of the U.S. Province of Priests and Brothers. “The Congregation understands that suffering is real in our world. War, hatred, persecution, and civil unrest burden the lives of so many. We want to offer help and hope in every way we can, and it must begin with prayer. Mary is the perfect model of hope. I’m grateful for the invitation for us to step away from our daily routines to pray together for peace, placing our hope in the Cross just as Mary did.”
People of all ages are invited to join this global moment.
As educators in the faith, with ministries at colleges and universities, parishes, elementary and high schools, and social services apostolates throughout the United States, and domestic and global mission efforts, Holy Cross endeavors to make God known, loved, and served everywhere we serve.
