Fundamor Converts Storage Building into Volunteer Housing

Fundamor, which comes from the combining of the words “Fundación” and “Moreau” is a ministry of the District of Chile-Peru that grew out of the Congregation’s long-standing work in Chile with orphans and children in at-risk situations. Fundamor offers a variety of different programs and outreach opportunities, including a prevention program that works with at-risk families to help them care for their children in their own homes.

In recent months, Fundamor worked to convert an abandoned building formerly utilized for supplies storage into suitable volunteer housing on its campus. The work began with an in depth cleaning of both the interior and exterior of the building, including the removal of a palm tree, debris, garbage, and cleaning the floors and walls. New restrooms were installed, including toilets, sinks, and showers, which required the repair and replacement of pipes, installation of faucets and upgrading the water system, as well as installation of a water heater. Once the plumbing work was completed, the electrical system was repaired and updated, including the installation of new light fixtures, shelves, and sockets. To complete the project, both the interior and exterior of the building was painted. See before and after photos below.

The renovation work was completed in early June 2024 and the new housing has been occupied by college students volunteering throughout the summer.
