This year 27 members of Holy Cross will celebrate their anniversaries of the Ordination to religious life–24 priests and three brothers. The 2011 celebration will be marked on Friday, May 27 with a Mass at Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the campus of Notre Dame. Two Holy Cross priests, Rev. William J. Brinker, C.S.C., and Rev. Howard A. Kuhns, C.S.C., are celebrating their 65th anniversary of Ordination into the priesthood (see the entire list below).
Congregation of Holy Cross founder, Blessed Basil Moreau, C.S.C., called on the priests and brothers of Holy cross to be “educators in the faith,” who with a preferential option for the poor, educate both mind and heart principally in the fields of education, parish, and mission.
Holy Cross members draw on the founder, Blessed Basil Moreau’s, trust in Divine Providence and confidence in the Cross as our only hope, and zeal to make “God known, loved and served.”
The Order’s distinctive charism and trust in Divine Providence has guided Holy Cross members to found world renowned institutes of Catholic higher education, parishes across the United States and Mexico, along with mission work on five continents. The Congregation of Holy Cross is a vibrant and committed community thriving today with Blessed Moreau’s original zeal and passion to love and serve the people of God.
