St. Joseph Parish, Sreemangal, Recovers Following Severe Storm
Established in 1950 as a ministry of Sacred Heart Province of Priests, St. Joseph Parish, Sreemangal, serves more than 12,000 Catholics in the area through 75 outstations and educates 2,500 children through three Catholic schools. The parish is managed by three priests and five religious sisters with 160 students living in hostels onsite.
In April 2024, the parish rectory and grounds suffered significant damage when a severe storm and tornado came through the area. The storm damaged windows, uprooted several trees on the parish grounds, and damaged the tin shed roof structure which provides protection from the elements when the roof is utilized for extra gathering space.
The Holy Cross Mission Center provided emergency relief to St. Joseph Parish to rebuild the tin shed roof structure with reinforced framework, to replace the broken windows, and to add barbed wire atop the walls of the parish campus for increased safety measures. See before and after pictures below.
