After a two-year hiatus due to the Covid pandemic, Holy Cross Parish Bugembe Jinja had a “Parish Day” where nearly 500 children received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Bishop Charles Martin Wamika presided at the colorful ceremony that included the renewal of marriage vows and praying for those who are “single and searching.” Congratulations to Rev. Oswald Nkyanungi, C.S.C., pastor of Holy Cross Parish, and his team for such a wonderful day.
In addition, Holy Cross Community for Empowerment (HOCCE) had its first Uganda government assessment of its students’ technical/trade skills level. Conducted by Uganda’s Directorate of Industrial Training (D.I.T.), the students are awarded “equivalent” certificates by the Uganda government depending on the skill level demonstrated in a particular area, such as garment making or hairdressing. The students did an exceptional job — we are quite proud of their accomplishments.
Lastly, Bishop McCauley House Kampala held an evening of prayer and farewell for Rev. Fred Jenga, C.S.C., before his departure for ministry in the United States. Fr. Fred has been assigned to head up Holy Cross Family Ministries in North Easton, Massachusetts. Friends such as Honorable Minister Justine Kasule Lumumba (N.R.M. Party), Honorable Proscovia Salaam Musumba (F.D.C. Party), Professor Monica Chibita and her husband Supreme Court Judge Mike Chibita joined the Holy Cross men in celebration..
