The United States Province of Priests and Brothers welcomed its newest priest following the Ordination of Rev. Mr. Carlos Augusto Jacobo de los Santos, C.S.C., on Dec. 8, 2012 – the Feast of the Immaculate Conception – at Nuestra Madre Santisima de La Luz parish in Guadalupe, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
La Luz is Holy Cross’ parish in the Monterrey area in the Region of Mexico. Fr. Carlos grew up there and his family still lives in the area. Fr. Carlos’ parents, Sabino Jacobo Vazquez and Abilina de los Santos Hernandez, were present for the Ordination.His brothers are Jesus Alberto “Beto,” Luis Ramon and Tomas Enrique.
Fr. Carlos was received into the Congregation of Holy Cross on Jan. 6, 2003. He made his First Vows exactly a year later. He made his Final Profession of Vows on Feb. 14, 2010. Bishop Jorge Cavazos, Auxiliary Bishop of Monterrey, administered the Sacrament of Holy Orders.
There were about 15 Holy Cross priests and one deacon who concelebrated the Mass, as well as a number of diocesan and religious priests from the Monterrey area who studied and worked with Fr. Carlos. Among the Holy Cross priests were representatives from Chile and Peru. Rev. Daniel Panchot, C.S.C., Vicar of Parroquia San Roque in Santiago, Chile, vested the new priest. Fr. Panchot was was Fr. Carlos’ formator for many years.
As a Deacon, Fr. Carlos organized and directed the altar server program at La Luz, a significant accomplishment. The group of servers sat in the front rows of the church in their new red and white vestments during the Ordination.
Fr. Carlos serves at Holy Cross’ St. John Vianney Parish in Goodyear, Ariz. A contingent of parishioners also made the trip to Guadalupe for the Ordination.
